The nature and the territory

Peschici is the more northern center of the continental Puglia: its territory, entire bound like natural beauty from law 1497 of 1939, occupies the part the northeast of the Gargano, from the coast until the slopes of the Umbra Forest. The orographic structure is represented from a system of modest reliefs that degrade from the inside towards the coast with lengthened hills, final, with cliff tips, on the sea. Between a relief and the other, read of antichi torrents has created a system of fondivalle: they lack the all water course in surface, while the underground it is rich and the entire territory is scattered of artificial pools and natural sources. To the West along relief of Monte Pucci (mt 207) and that sinuoso of the costone of Peschici (mt 114) enclose the Marsh (an ancient swamp) and the flat one of Calena, furrowed from gravelly bed of the Chianara, a torrent (mostly dry) that from the valleys of Umbra it arrives to the sea in the great beach of Navy. To the inside, from Goblet Sartagine (m 298) to Monte Calena (m 491), stretch widths pinete and driven in forests of beech-tree and oaks. To east of Peschici, a series of full of rocks tips is ollowed to beach of fine sand, small like those of Precenisco. Zaiano, Calalunga, and widths like those of S. Nicholas, Manaccore, Sfinale.

Geologically great part of the territory is formed from heaps of Eocene limestone, of nummulitico type, along wrap it coastal and of marly type with selce to the inside. The climate can be put in relation to two pedo-climatic zones: one subumida moderated to next Mediterranean climate to the coast, the other humid one to continental climate towards the inside. To winter relatively rigid and rainy barren summers are ollowed. You attend the wind of bora, always cold, from north, and the siroc, dry warmth and, from south. To the two pedo-climatic zones they can approximately be made to correspond two floro-faunistiche zones: one Mediterranean, from the coast to the first reliefs, and the other submountan, to the inside. In the first zone it predominates the Mediterranean spot with lentisco, rosmarin, ginestre, asphodels, ruta, euforbie, etc. In the fauna various coming from bugs from the other side of the Adriatic signal themselves; very represented several the species of ortotteri, coleopters, lepidotteri and imenotteri. Between the reptiles predominate the lucertole; rare the vipera. Between the birds passings those of swamp, predominate the passeriformi; rare the rapaci. Between the mammals, passings wolf and the capriolo, survive rare rates, vixens, faine and wild boars. Also the fauna and the marine flora, present along the coast, essentially are represented from species Mediterranean. In waters still cleaned up they live alghe also eatable; in frequent proximities of the shoreline they are marine telline, crab, stars; on the coast they dwell clash, patellas, tartufi of sea; on the bottom lobsters, crayfish, pulps, small cuttlefishes; in the open sea blue fish, gronghi, mormore, triglie, cefali, etc.
